When should I schedule my session?
The best time to schedule your session depends on your child’s age and your family’s purposes (is this a birthday session? a holiday portrait? a newborn or maternity session?). If you are a maternity client, the best time to schedule your session is between weeks 30 and 35 when your belly is showing and you feel comfortable. If you are scheduling a child portrait, it is best to schedule the session at your child’s freshest time of day. Many children feel their best first thing in the morning while others like to play and be photographed after an afternoon nap. We can also accommodate school aged children with afternoon and early evening sessions. If you are scheduling a newborn session, the best time for your newborn to be photographed is between 0 to 6 weeks when your newborn is still in a curled position and very sleepy.
Because we understand the fullness of your family’s schedule, we offer weekday morning and afternoon sessions and some weekend appointments. Please try to schedule your session appointment two to four weeks in advance.
What should I wear?
Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident. If you feel like an outfit is flattering and you feel good wearing it, then you likely look amazing. We have put together sample suggestion sheets to help you coordinate clothing for your portrait session. See the following: Ladies Classic (neutral), Ladies Vivid (colorful), Girls Classic (neutral), Girls Vivid (colorful), and Mens/Boys Classic (neutral) and Mens/Boys Vivid (colorful). Many of our clients have had good luck finding clothing at Old Navy, GAP, and Target. We will talk with you at greater length and answer all questions about what to wear, as well as hair and grooming questions, at your pre-session consultation.
I want to purchase a session for my grandchild, son, daughter, friend . . . Are gift certificates available?
Yes! Please e-mail us at jessicamonte@jessicamonte.com so that we set up your session and mail your gift certificate to your loved one.
What should I bring?
For the most part, you simply need to bring yourselves with an appetite for fun. We supply many props such as blankets, baskets, baby and child hats, children’s furniture like stools and chairs, as well as well some toys. To purchase your own silly baby and child hats, check out etsy, GAP, Gymboree, Crazy 8, and local consignment shops like Little Lords and Ladies, Small Change Consignments and Paddington Station.
You may want to bring your child or baby’s favorite toy or lovey to your session; other colorful props like large lollipops and bright flowers also work well in portraits. For newborn and baby sessions, we ask that you bring diapers, wipes, and bloomers that fit well. We make sure that we take our time during these sessions to make sure that baby is happy and has a great time having their portraits done. We will also be sure to help with cleanup!
Last, we love learning about who our clients are, so please don’t hesitate to bring a meaningful item or family heirloom to your session.
