What to Wear

So you have a closet full of clothes, but aren’t sure what to wear?  Here are a few ideas that will help you choose the BEST clothes to wear for your portraits.  Also, please remember that a week before your session, we’ll sit down to go through your clothing, prop, and location ideas.  I LOVE to brainstorm with my clients!

Try to pick clothing that is comfortable and makes you feel beautiful, amazing, and ready for fun!

Don’t be afraid of color.  Feel free to bring neutral colors and bright splashes of color too.  Adding color to your clothing can make your proofs come alive and give you more to choose from.  Another great way to add color to your portraits is to wear statement jewelry in brighter colors like turquoise, yellow, etc.

Your face should be the focal point of your portraits. Long sleeve solids or very subtle prints are a good choice for one of your outfits.

Wear sunscreen, lol! Be aware of the sun and lines created on your skin at the tanning salon.  Guys, watch out for uneven sunburn from wearing ball caps.

Guys and gals, be careful for peeling skin on noses from recent burns, raccoon eyes from wearing sunglasses while sunbathing.  Ladies, you may want to consider strap lines on your shoulders of gals if you’d like to wear strapless dresses or tops. Sunburn, uneven tanning and tan lines are difficult to retouch.  You may want to reschedule your session if you have a bad sunburn.

Wear clothes that fit well and are wrinkle free. You’ll want to bring your clothes on hangers rather than rolled up  in a bag.   Guys, make sure your collared shirts, suits and other attire fit well, are comfortable and flattering.

While traditional styles will be classic for years to come, I love to play with fashion and trends.  We can create a personalized, fun, and amazing portrait session that is perfect for you.  Please select fashions that reflect who YOU are!  Fun hats, caps, jewelry, scarves, and other accessories can add a special something to your portraits.   Wear clothing that speaks to what your personal style and intention are.  For casual, natural family portraits, clients may want to wear denim.  You can dress up an outfit with the right shoes, jewelry, and props.   I am happy to help you put together the perfect outfits for your portraits so that your individual, child or baby, or family portraits look pulled together and gorgeous.
